fbpx Potential Diagnosis of Heart and Skeletal Muscle Inflammation | Pacific Salmon Foundation

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has today (May20, 2016) issued a news release regarding the detection of Heart and Skeletal Muscle Inflammation (HSMI) in farmed Atlantic Salmon at one B.C. fish farm. This was detected as part of the Pacific Salmon Foundation’s Strategic Salmon Health Initiative (SSHI), which involves the Foundation, Genome BC and DFO. Click here to view the DFO news release.

This kind of finding is consistent with the overall goal of the Strategic Salmon Health Initiative, which is to identify the microbes present in wild, hatchery and aquaculture salmon in British Columbia, and potential effects of microbes on the health of our wild Pacific salmon.
