#BCWildSalmonDay

What is BC Wild Salmon Day?

BC Wild Salmon Day was proclaimed in 2019 by the Provincial Government. The day recognizes the intrinsic value wild salmon provide to our province.

“In B.C., wild salmon are part of who we are. Coastal communities, First Nations, ecosystems and local economies depend on healthy wild salmon stocks,” said Premier John Horgan. “Together with organizations like the Pacific Salmon Foundation, we are working to restore habitats that support wild salmon stocks in our province.”

At the Pacific Salmon Foundation we want to ensure that wild salmon stay top-of-mind because wild salmon are our neighbors. Their habitat includes the creeks that criss-cross your neighborhood, the rivers that power our electricity, and the ocean we use to meet our food and recreational needs. How we choose to live can have significant impacts on their survival.

BC Wild Salmon Day is a potent reminder to keep the conversation going so that everyone is a steward whether you are making policies or making the decision to not pour chemicals down the drain!

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Support volunteer-driven salmon projects by bidding on an item, or donating through our 2021 Spring Fundraising Auction.
  • Post on social about why salmon matter to you and how you’re making a difference. Remember to use the hashtag #BCWildSalmonDay.
  • Contact the Pacific Streamkeepers Federation about volunteer opportunities in your community

Salmon are resilient, they just need your help. Thank you for helping us bring them back.
