Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Ward learned to fish in our local Millstream Creek, behind Grandma Phelps, in grade two.  Since then, Ward was hooked to both fishing and to Vancouver Island, where he has raised his family with his wife, Shannon.

Turning his passion into a business, Ward is now co-owner of Island Outfitters Ltd. which opened in Victoria in 1994.  He holds a freshwater guide license and has guided on the West Coast for the last 25 years.

Ward chaired the Victoria Sports Fishing Advisory Board as well as sat on the main board in the past.  He has represented the recreational anglers as the Co-Chair of the Ground Fish Working Group and sat on many panels to deal with matters from Halibut Allocation to the Steelhead Recovery Program.

He was part of the committee for the Pacific Salmon Foundations’ first Gala Dinner and remains a committee member to this day.
