Ned Pottinger has had a strong connection with salmon fishing in the Strait of Georgia since he was a small child. His studies in environmental sciences and professional work in that discipline strengthened that connection. He joined the Foundation board to help make their efforts more effective and build their capacity. He has helped foster the growth of the organization from a fledgling NGO into a well-established, well-funded, and powerful force in the environmental community. Ned chaired the Foundation board for three years and remains involved as a director on several committees.
Ned is the chair of Pottinger Gaherty Environmental Consultants Ltd. (PGL) with offices in Vancouver, BC, Langley BC, Victoria, BC, and Whitby Ontario. PGL has provided environmental consulting services in environmental impact assessment, contamination assessment and remediation, due diligence, audits, and environmental management consulting services for more than 23 years.
Ned has served as a director and president of the BC Institute of Agrologists, president of the Savary Island Property Owners Association, and has served on the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s advisory committee and Simon Fraser University's co-op advisory committee, in addition to many other organizations. He is currently president of Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
Ned has more than 35 years of environmental and land resource consulting experience. In addition to his strong technical expertise, he has a broad base of knowledge in business, development, law, economics, and government organization in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. His five years of experience overseas in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe has given him valuable insight into global issues.
